The formal definition of cremation is the reduction of human remains by intense heat over a period of time.

No, we often surprise people when they say choose cremation for their funeral service, and we reply how would you like that service.

  • You may choose a direct cremation, which has no service involved.
  • You may have a private viewing followed by cremation, which is great for family members to have a private moment with their loved one before cremation.
  • Another option is cremation with a memorial service, no body is present during this service, sometimes even the ashes are not present..
  • Traditional service followed by cremation is another option. This is basically a normal funeral, with calling hours, and a funeral service at the funeral home or other place such as a church. The main difference is after the service we do not drive to the cemetery. Cremation is done after the service.

Depending on the size of the person, normally 2-3 hours at 1800 degrees Fahrenheit.

An alternative container is a durable cardboard and wood box that is used to transport the body to the crematory and is cremated along with the body.

Think of it as a small urn.  It cannot hold all of the ashes, only a portion, and can be used for personal items of deceased.

It is very nice for families who want to keep a part of their loved one with them, such as jewelry or a personal object of the deceased . This is also very similar to reason people desire cremation jewelry.

There are a few differences between Ohio and Georgia, when that occurred. One is that Ohio regulates crematories. Meaning there are laws that govern every crematory in this state, Georgia did not have any when that occurred. We personally inspect the crematory every year to make sure it is functioning properly as we are required to do. We can arrange for a family member to watch the cremation if they wish to ensure. We also know the difference between ashes and cremated wood chips and cement. We personally deliver and pick-up at CRW Crematory in Canton, OH.

The crematory places a stainless steel tag in with every cremation. This tag has an identification number imprinted on it, and remains with the cremains at all times. We personally deliver the remains and pick-up the cremains at the crematory.
