Becky C. (Caldwell) Horst

On Thursday, April 5, 2018, Becky C. Horst who had fought the good fight, run the race, and kept the faith, entered into the joy of her Lord and now fully knows the truth of her favorite hymn, “Amazing Grace”.  The God she sang to, prayed to, trusted and loved is now the Light of her existence, and now she stands in a perfect, glorified body, joining with the throngs who sing “Holy, Holy, Holy!” Becky was born February 2, 1929, in Athens to the late James A. and Bernice (Baumgartner) Caldwell, moving to Massillon at age 3 1/2. She graduated Washington High School in 1947, continuing her education at Kent State University. While at Kent she became a member of Gamma Phi Beta Sorority, and was inducted into Kappa Delta Phi, the oldest international education honor sorority in the U.S.A.  Becky graduated with her Bachelors degree in Education in 1951. She furthered her education at Malone and Akron Universities. From 1951-1958 Becky taught in the Massillon School District and, following her husband’s death, returned to teaching at Calvary Christian Academy from 1978-1992. Becky’s husband, Fred C. Horst, died on February 18, 1978. She has 2 children:  Heidi (George) Seaman residing in Gresham, OR, and Calvin F. Horst of Covington, KY. There are five grandchildren:  Natalie Seaman, John Seaman, Seth Horst, Luke Horst, and Alayna Horst, as well as great grandsons Tre’ and Oliver.  Becky’s brother, Jim (Nancy) Caldwell, and nephews Andrew and Stephen Caldwell, all of Loudonville, also survive. She was a member and former State Officer of Al-Anon/Alateen, forging new paths to help families affected by addiction. She was also a Voting Poll Judge until poor health forced her to resign that position. Becky was an active, vivacious member of Grace Bible Church, always ready with a smile, encouraging word, and a prayer. A Celebration of her Life will be held at Grace Bible on Saturday, April 28, 2018, at 10:30am, with Pastor Mick Robinson officiating.The family will receive friends 1/2 hour prior to the service, at the church, from 10:00am to 10:30am, with additional time following the service at the Celebration meal.
