Manford M. Young, age 92 of Jackson Twp., passed away Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at Rose Lane Health Care Center.
He was born April 20, 1924, in Dexter City the son of the late Guy and Charlotte (Oliphant) Young.
He was a veteran of WWII where he served in the U.S. Army. He was an expert marksman and following the war he competed professionally in Europe. He holds his divisions record for the M1 rifle with a score of 211 out of 220.
Manford started his working career restoring cars with his brothers. Later he became a contractor and began building homes and apartments with his brothers at Young Brothers Builders.
He loved traveling with his late wife, Mary (Burkhart) Young. They had been married 69 years when she died in January of 2017.
He is survived by daughter, Sally A. Lamb; sons & daughters-in-law, Jack and Debbie Young, Larry and Andrea Young; grandchildren, Eric Young, Christine and Sam Young, Paige and Taylor Young, Robert Lamb and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brothers Eldon Young and Burt Young and two sons, Dale and James Young.
A private family gathering will be held at a later date.
