Nona Virginia (Yost) Mitchell

September 15, 1930 ~ May 6, 2017 (age 86) 86 Years Old

Nona Virginia (Yost) Mitchell, age 86 of Massillon, passed away on May 6, 2017, following a period of declining health. She was born September 15, 1930, in Massillon the daughter of the late William and Virginia (Dancy) Keith.  Nona was raised in Brewster. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  She was humble, kind and extremely generous, always putting others before herself (except when playing euchre).  She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. She was a true friend to so many. Nona is survived by sons & daughters-in-law, Robert and Melissa Yost, William and Carol Yost, Timothy and Laura Yost; daughters and sons-in-law, Cynthia and Steve Nash, Sandra and John DeMarsh, Anne Marie and Ron Horton, sister Mary Ann Petscher, special friend and cousin Alice Wikel, 16 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and brothers-in-law Gene, Dick and Jim Mitchell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Michael P. Mitchell and an infant brother William Keith. Nona was an LPN and had worked at Doctors Hospital for 12 years.  She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, St. Mary Rosary Alter, YWCA, Isabellas and enjoyed quilting and playing euchre.  She loved baking for friends and family. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at  10 A.M. with Fr. Edward Gretchko, celebrant. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 from 5 to 8 P.M., at Heitger Funeral Home, 639 First St. N.E., Massillon, Ohio. Burial to follow the service at  East Union Cemetery, Navarre, Ohio. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 6100 Rockside Woods Blvd, #445, Independence, Ohio  44131. The family would like to extend a very special thanks to Dr. Donald Zimmerman, M.D., for the exceptional care given to their mother.  He has been a Saint and a God sent blessing to mom and the family. Additionally, the family expresses their gratitude to the kind, loving and expert staff of Amherst Meadows and Harbor Light Hospice for the excellent care provided to their mother.
