Jane L (Braun) Smeyres

August 9, 1932 ~ January 9, 2018 (age 85) 85 Years Old

Jane Louise Smeyres, age 85, passed away Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at her home after a brief illness, surrounded by her family.
Jane was born August 9, 1932 in Massillon, the daughter of the late Hazel and Ralph Braun. She is preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Bill Smeyres, sister Mary Zorger, brothers Donald and Raymond Braun. She is survived by her daughter Barbara and Don Noble, son Jeff Smeyres, son Tom and Michelle Smeyres all of Massillon, sister JoAnn Grant, sister in-law Mary Beth Smeyres, five grandchildren - Andrea Castellanos and Fred Romick, Chris and Ashley Castellanos, Donivan Noble and fiancée Claire Puncer, Erika and Austin Haag, Gunnar Smeyres, and two great-grandchildren, Cadence Castellanos and Austin Cookro, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Jane graduated from Massillon Washington High School Class of 1950. She had enjoyed being a majorette in school. She worked at First Savings and Loan and then as a secretary for the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Massillon Post before becoming a wonderful wife and mother.  Bill and Jane lived their entire lives in Massillon, and owned the Amherst Coin Car Wash and “The Big House” Apartments. She enjoyed bowling, playing Euchre, keeping an immaculate home, and was a marvelous cook and baker. We will all miss her Apricot Salad at family gatherings! Jane was also a lifetime member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Massillon. For many years, she enjoyed participating in the Mr. & Mrs. Club through St. Mary’s.
Jane and her sharp sense of humor will be sorely missed by her family and friends. The family would like to send a sincere debt of gratitude for the women who have graciously helped Jane over the past two years: Annette, Mary Jane, Susan, and Sherry and Community Hospice.  We would like to thank you for the patience and care you provided our mother and our family.
