Obituary

Alice Florence (Longheier) Scharver passed away peacefully on January 18, 2025, at the age of 102. Alice was born on December21, 1922 to John & Florence Longheier in Massillon, Ohio.

She was a graduate of Washington High School, Massillon, Ohio in the class of 1940. She also attended Canton Actual Business College in Canton, Ohio. Alice worked at the Ohio Merchants Bank in Massillon prior to her marriage.  Following WWII, she married Charles E. Scharver on September 28, 1946 and spent 69 years of marriage until his death on March 16, 2016.

Together they had 5 children: Rebecca & John Thompson both deceased) of Cincinnati, Mimi (Robin) Gozdan of Massillon, Paul (Jeanette) of North Lawrence, Sally (Greg) Mason of Seville, Steve (friend Angie) of Canton. She is survived by 10 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren & 4 great-great grandchildren.  Sisters-in-law, Donna Powell & Mary Longheier along with numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her husband, Charles, parents, John & Florence Longheier, brothers, Paul (Evelyn) Longheier, Jack Longheier, Rosemary (Roy) Preece and grandsons, Matthew Gozdan, Edward Thompson, and Tyler Mason.

Alice was a long time member of St. Joseph's of Massillon and was a member of the Christian Women group.  She enjoyed spending time with her family, playing bridge with her friends, making jigsaw puzzles, reading, and most of all crocheting woolen scarves for the St. Joseph's soup kitchen, The SAM Center, and Salvation Army to benefit those in need.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. Vincent De Paul Society of St Joseph's- Divine Mercy Parish, Massillon, Ohio, Aultman Compassionate Care Center, Aultman Hospice or your favorite charity.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at Divine Mercy Parish - St. Joseph campus on Saturday, January 25, 2025 at 11AM, with the Very Rev. John E. Sheridan, J.C.L., V.F. as celebrant.  There will be no visitation or calling hours.  Interment will be St Joseph's Cemetery, Massillon.
