Amelia R. Higgins, age 97 of Massillon, passed away Saturday, December 17, 2016 at Affinity Medical Center.
She was born January 6, 1919, in Massillon the daughter of the late Ernest and Amelia (Warth) Sonnhalter.
She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, and enjoyed crossword puzzles, feeding the outdoor animals and needlework.
Amelia is survived by son and daughter-in-law, John and Sally Higgins; daughter, Diane Higgins; grandchildren Johnny, Michael and Zachary.
She was preceded in death by husband, John "Jack" Higgins, Sr., infant daughter Barbara Ann Higgins, sisters, Dorothy White and Irene McGuire.
There will be no calling hours.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Edward Gretchko, Pastor of St. Mary Catholic Church at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 127 Cherry St. N.E., Massillon on Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at 10 A.m.
Burial to follow the service at Sunset Hills Memory Gardens in North Canton.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Mary Restoration Fund, 726 First St. N.E., Massillon, Ohio  44646.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Laurels of Massillon for the excellent care their mother received during her two years with them.
