Carl G. Nelson, age 96, of Jackson Twp., passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 26, 2025 at Mercy Medical Center in the presence of his family.

Born July 21, 1929, in Akron, Ohio, he was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Helen Nelson; brother, Frank Nelson; and grandson Ian Givens.

Carl is survived by his wife of 67 years, Barbara (Willis) Nelson; daughters, Cathy (Glen) Givens of New Franklin, and Deborah (Paul) Smith of Massillon; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He graduated from Buchtel High School in 1947, and served in the Army during the Korean War.  Carl retired from the Akron Beacon Journal in 1991 after 26 years in the composing room, and previously worked at Akron Legal News.

He enjoyed golf, photography, traveling, singing, and making people laugh and smile.

Carl will be honored in a Celebration of Life dinner at La Pizzeria Restaurant on Saturday, August 16, 2025 at 1 P.M.
