Obituary

Carolyn A. Verbic.  Born December 7, 1943 the daughter of the late Veronica (Verna) and Edward (Ed) Gazdik in Brooklyn, Ohio (suburban Cleveland).  She grew up in Brooklyn, graduated from Brooklyn High School and attended Dyke Business College and The Cleveland State University.

She moved to the Canton area in 1970 where Ken was working.

Carolyn died unexpectedly following abdominal surgery on June 14, 2025.

Carolyn is survived by her loving husband Ken with whom she was married for 54 years.  Also survived by her brother, Terry Gazdik (Pat); sister, Connie Manson (Bill); sister-in-law, Judy Evans (William); nieces, Danielle and Tiffany; nephews, Eric, Dan, Jeff, David and William and their spouses.  And of course her beloved dog, Duke.  She had many friends in Ohio and in Florida where they had been wintering.

She worked for the federal government as a secretary before moving to Canton, then was office manager for three of the local builders.  She was a great cook, especially baking, and collected hundreds of recipes.  She loved picture puzzles and could put together a thousand pieces in no time, and she loved birds.  Another of her passions was planting flowers and a vegetable garden every spring, as she had just finished this year.  Carolyn and Ken were regulars on Friday nights at the Massillon Eagles for cocktails and dinner where they made many friends.  Rides through the scenic "Amish Country" was a favorite past time.  Carolyn and Ken were long time members of Queen of Heaven Parish and more recently St. Michael the Archangel.

Memorial Mass will be held on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at 11:00 A.M. at Queen of Heaven Parish, 1800 Steese Road Uniontown, OH 44685 (In the city of Green, Ohio), with Fr. David Durkee celebrant. Visitation will be held prior to the Mass at the church from 10 A.M. to 11 A.M.

Donations may be made to Pegasus Horse Farm, Stark County Humane Society, Queen of Heaven Parish or St. Michael's Parishes, but she really did love flowers too. Condolences to the family may be made here on our tribute page. Heitger Funeral Home and Crematory 330-830-0148
