Obituary

Catherine A. Hodgson 96, a life-long resident of North Lawrence was called Home after a long well lived life. She passed quietly on Saturday, February 15, 2014 at 4:10 P.M. at The Laurels of Massillon where she had been since November 25, 2013.

'Kate' was born on March 29, 1917 to John and Carrie (Graybill) Hodgson of North Lawrence. She was born next door to the house her father built and moved into when she was two years old and remained there throughout her life. Catherine had a very long and varied work life; during WWII she along with other women in the area worked at the Tyson Company in Massillon producing material to support the war effort. She later worked as the Office Manager/Receptionist for Dr. R. F. Hecker in Orrville, Ohio. She also worked at RW Screw in Massillon for many years in the secondary department where she retired in 1982.

She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir and performed many solo hymns and for a time served as the church treasurer.

In her free time she enjoyed tending her many flower beds, crocheting baby blankets for new arrivals to the family and treating everyone she knew to Christmas cookies she proudly baked every year.

Catherine is survived by daughter-in-law Glenna (Buskirk) Hodgson, grandchildren Dale (Julie) Hodgson, David Hodgson, Denise (Marlon) Rossiter; great grandchildren Jamie (Derrick) Saylor, Timothy Hodgson, Lindsay Rossiter, Alison (Joseph) Holt; great-great grandchildren, Kailey and Madison. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and long-time friend/neighbor Patricia Bottomly. She was preceded in death by her parents John and Carrie Hodgson, son Eugene Hodgson, brothers John, Charles, Willard, Henry, sister Mary-Ann Bosley; great-grandson Justin Rossiter.

Friends may call at Heitger Funeral Home, 639 First St. N.E., Massillon on Wednesday, February 19, 2014 from 5:30 to 8 P.M. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 20, 2014 at 11 A.M. at the funeral home with calling hours from 10 to 11 A.M. prior to the service. A brief graveside will be held at Newman's Creek Cemetery in North Lawrence immediately after the funeral followed by a meal at the Chapel of the Cross United Methodist Church in North Lawrence.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Crossroads Hospice, 3743 Boettler Oaks Dr, Green, Ohio 44685. The family would like to express sincere appreciation and thanks to both the Laurels of Massillon and Crossroads Hospice for the care and compassion given Catherine during her time there.
