Charles Edward Scharver, 1922-2016, passed peacefully, March 16, 2016. Survived by his wife of 69 years, Alice F. (nee Longheier), children Rebecca (John deceased) Thompson of Cincinnati, Marie-Mimi (Robin) Gozdan of Massillon, Paul (Jeannette) of North Lawrence, Sally (Greg) Mason of Seville, and Steve (Angie) Scharver of Canton, sisters Audrey Kauffman and Donna Powell, sixteen grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by parents J. Harry and Geneva Scharver, brothers Ralph and Thomas Scharver, sisters Loyola Moore and Joan Schuster, grandsons Edward Thompson and Tyler Mason.
Charles was a veteran of U.S. Army serving in Europe during WWII. Memberships include St. Joseph's Catholic Church and Holy Name Society of Massillon. He served as an officer in the local Carpenter's Union, previously #881, currently #285.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the St. Vincent DePaul Society at St. Joseph's, 322 Third St. S.E., Massillon, Ohio 44646.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at 11 A. M. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Raymond Paul celebrant. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 at the church prior to the service. Interment will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Massillon.
The family would like to thank Affinity Medical Center and the Community Hospice program for the care of our husband, father and grandfather.
