Cornelia Halmaciu, age 82, of Canton, passed away Thursday, March 21, 2024 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born May 27, 1941 in Avrig, Romania. She was the daughter of the late Vasile and Ioana (Berghea) Coțofana. In Romania, Cornelia worked at the Glass Factory in Avrig. At age 70, she moved to the United States to live with her daughter and granddaughter. She worked full time for Executive Properties Inc. in Akron, from 2011 until 2024.

Cornelia was vibrant and full of life. Her energetic personality was contagious to everyone she met. Her family meant everything to her. She embodied the best of qualities: unconditional love, strength of spirit, and an unending generosity that could be seen in how she cared for her family. Cornelia enjoyed volunteering and cooking for those in need or ill. She took pride in her job and enjoyed helping remodel apartments at her workplace for 13 years. She would help anyone without question or being asked. She was kind and gentle. A gift giver. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening, and attending Andrea Bocelli concerts. She loved spending time with her great-grandchildren.

Cornelia is survived by her daughter, Flory Aldea and her son George (Viorica) Halmaciu; her grandchildren Sonia, Fabian, Alexandru, and Adrian Halmaciu; granddaughter Alexandra (Matthew) Rhoads, and her great-grandchildren: Everett and Micah Rhoads; her brother Ioan (Dorina) Coțofana, and nephew Ovidiu Coțofana.

She was preceded in death by her husband Dumitru Halmaciu (1984).

Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at 6:00 PM at St. George Romanian Orthodox Church in Canton - 144 30th St. NW, Canton, Ohio 44709.

Calling hours will be held at the church prior to the service from 5:00 to 6:00 PM. A memorial service will be held in her honor on Sunday, March 31st at 12:00 PM followed by a meal. Her final place of rest will be next to her husband and her family in Avrig, Romania.
