Obituary

Dale "Bud" Robert Maurer Age 89, passed away peacefully Tuesday, November 13, 2012. Dale was born January 17, 1923, in Massillon, the son of the late Alfred and Clara (Ulli) Maurer. Dale was also preceded in death by his wife Ramona Evans Maurer, brother Kenny Maurer, sister Ellen Boerner and nephew William Boerner.

Dale was a lifelong resident of Massillon and was a graduate of Washington High School. He served in the United States Army Air Force as a machine gunner on a B-17 Flying Fortress during World War II. After returning home he was employed by Evans Auto Parts for many years, and ended his working career with the Perry Local School System. Dale has been a member of the Massillon Lions Club for 44 years and served as president in 1985. He volunteered with the Lazy Eye testing, candy days, and was an avid theater volunteer. He will be especially remembered by many, for his performances during the Lions Club Annual Shows when he would perform with the Beef Trust dance line. He was a member of the American Legion, Massillon AARP, St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.

Dale will be sadly missed by his sister-in-law, Sandy DeYarmon of Atlanta, Georgia; nieces and nephews, Tonya (Les) Stuck, Paul (Nancy) Hodgson of Massillon, Christopher and Nicole DeYarmon of Atlanta; great niece and nephew, Brett (Laura) Hodgson of Grand Rapids, Michigan; Kelly (James) Cole of Bloomville, David Stuck of Massillon; and great-great nephews, Donovan DeYarmon of Atlanta and Brady Cole of Bloomville.

The family would like to thank the staff at The Inn at University Village and the Great Lakes Hospice staff for their loving and wonderful care during Dale's stay.

Friends may call Friday, November 16th from 6 to 8 p.m. at Heitger Funeral Home Massillon Chapel, 639 First St NE. There will be a Lions Club service prior to calling hours at 5:30 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, November 17th at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Massillon with Rev. Edward Gretchko celebrant. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens in Massillon. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Massillon Lions Club or the Stark County Humane Society.
