Daniel D. Hanley, was born December 6, 1928 in Beaver Falls, PA son of the late Thomas C. and Dorothy (Struble) Hanley, passed away Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at The Laurels of Massillon.
Dan grew up in Massillon and graduated from Massillon Washington High School in 1947. He was also a member of a band called The Kendal Rhythm Boys. Dan arranged music and played clarinet and saxophone with this local band in the 1940's and 1950's. Dan was stationed in Okinawa while serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After serving in the military he pursued his passion for flying by obtaining his commercial pilot license. He loved to take his family for rides in his Cessna 120. In 1959, Dan married the love of his life, Judy Buck of Navarre. They then moved to Chicago where they lived for 50 years. While there, he attended Northwestern University and majored in journalism and English.
Dan was an accomplished artist, photographer and published writer. He wrote a book entitled 424 Tenth about his growing up years in Northeast Massillon. He also wrote The Never Ending Story; a researched genealogy of his family. In 2009, Dan returned to live in Navarre to be close to family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Thomas Hanley, and sisters; Marilyn Hanley Marconi and Judith Hanley Carmody.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 54 years, Judy (Buck) Hanley of Navarre, sister Patricia E. Rohrer of Massillon, brother-in-law Jerry (Angelica) Buck of Virginia, sister-in-law Carol (Tom) Hilbert of Massillon,. He was a special and much loved uncle to nephews; Paul 'Pete' (Mary) Rohrer, Bob (Patty) Rohrer, all of Jackson Twp., Tim (Linda) Rohrer of Shreve, Ty Hilbert of Jackson Twp., Dan Hilbert of Navarre and Scott (Claire) Hilbert of Bath, Michael Marconi of FL., nieces; Nancy (Ted) Dwenger of KY, Linda (Ken) Girt of Jackson Twp., Kim (Bob) Haas of Green, and Dr. Callene (John) Montazee of Brentwood, CA, Kathy (Douglas) Harmelink of Dalton, Micki Marconi of GA, cousins, great nieces and great nephews. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at 12 Noon at Heitger Funeral Home-Massillon Chapel with Rev. Raymond Paul officiating. Visitation will be from 10 A.M. to Noon, at the funeral home prior to the service. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery in Navarre.
