Daniel G. Unklesbay age 89 of Massillon passed away Tuesday February 1, 2022 at Altercare of Navarre. He was born January 9, 1931 Massillon the son of the late Lillian Unklesbay. Dan retired from Republic Steel then later LTV Steel. He was a member of the Massillon Moose 481, St. Barbara's Men's club, He also coached basketball at St Barbara's, plus he coached his children in baseball and softball. He was a season ticket holder of the Massillon Tigers since 1953. Dan served in Germany where he was a tank commander for the Army. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and watching them plays sports. He also loved taken care of his yard and sitting on the swing watching people go by. Dan is survived by his son Daniel (Susie) Unklesbay; daughter JoEllen (Mike) McCarthy; four grandchildren, Amanda Unklesbay of N.C. , Andrea (Eric ) Landman, Thomas (Tracy )McCarthy , Anthony (Sabrina) McCarthy, and four great Grandchildren, Colton and Harper Landman and Luca and Finley McCarthy. He is preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Antoinette, three sisters, four brothers and a great-grandson, Jack Thomas McCarthy. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Barbara Catholic Church, 2813 Lincoln Way W., on MONDAY, February 7, 2022 at 10:30 A.M. with Rev. Canon Mathew Mankowski , celebrant. Calling hours will be at the church prior to the Mass from 10 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. Burial will follow the service at Oakwood Cemetery in Massillon. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Alzheimer association or St Barbara Church. The family would like to thank the staff at Altercare of Navarre and Absolute Hospice for their care. Condolences to the family may be made here on our tribute wall.
