Darlene C. Schroeder, age 90 of Massillon, passed away on December 9, 2015.  She was born on august 20, 1925 in Canton, daughter of the late John J. and Mary E. (Schmalz) Gertz Sr.

Darlene graduated from Mercy School of Nursing and worked as an RN at Mercy Hospital, Massillon City Hospital and Hospitality House.

She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and Columbian Ladies Guild where she volunteered for K of C Bingo. Darlene loved her church and enjoyed traveling to visit her far-flung family.

Surviving are her children, Mark (Emelie) Schroeder of Massillon, Craig (Tonya) Schroeder of Columbus, Susan (Robert) MacDonald of Kimberly, B.C., Ann (Patrick) Huggins of Albuquerque, NM, daughter-in-law Phoebe Schroeder of Massillon, sister Sylvia Hayden of Ft. Meyers, FL granddaughter Shane Altarejos, grandson Lewis Huggins and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Glenn Sr. who died in 1986, son Scott who died in 1975, sisters Gertrude Schroeder and Lucille Archer, brothers John Jr. and Wilfred Gertz.

Her loving manner and great heart will be missed by all who knew her.

Visitation will be held on THURSDAY, December 17, 2015 from 9:30 to 10:30 at Heitger Funeral Home - Massillon Chapel.

Mass of Christian Burial will follow visitation and begin at 11 A.M. at Holy Family Parish, St. Clement's Campus in Navarre with Rev. Michael Seifert celebrant.  Burial will follow at Sunset Hills Burial Park.
