Dawson A. Getz, age 101 1/2, died Saturday, February 25, 2012 at Hanover House.

He was born July 28, 1910 in Massillon, the son of the late John Dawson and Rhoda M. (Altland) Getz.

Dawson a 1932 graduate of Washington High School, where he participated in varsity basketball and track.

He retired as a metallurgist from Enduro Division of Republic Steel after 38 years of service.

Dawson is survived by wife of 74 years, Vera M. (Kestner) Getz; son and daughter-in-law, D. Richard and Vivian Getz of Massillon; three grandchildren, Andrew Getz of Beach City, Susan (Dwayne) Boss of Massillon, Julie (John) Smith of Hartville; 7 great-grandchildren, Collin and Allison Getz, Taylor and Corey Boss, Gracey, Raina and Mylena Smith.

Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, February 29, 2012 at Heitger Funeral Service - Massillon Chapel, 639 First St NE, at 11:00 AM with Pastor Rhonda Gallagher officiating.

Burial at Massillon Cemetery.
