Edward J. Hynes, age 85 of Jackson Township, passed away Thursday, July 4, 2024 at Gables of Green with his wife by his side. He was born September 8, 1938, in Brooklyn, NY, the son of the late Edward and Muriel (Gilbride) Hynes. He was a veteran of the Navy as a specialist on a submarine. Ed retired from New York City Transit Authority after 30 years of service. He was a member of Knights of Columbus, American Legion, Red Cross. He was an avid lover of history, photography, National Parks, and computer science. He enjoyed golfing and traveling with his wife of 62 years, Barbara (Stevenson) Hynes. Ed is also survived by his daughter, Karen (Carl) Zilla; three grandsons, Michael Zilla, Brian (Caitlin) Zilla, Matthew Zilla. He was preceded in death by brother, Billy; sister, Muriel Walsh; and grandson, Carl Matthew Zilla. A graveside service will be held at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens, 3655 Wales Ave NW in Massillon on Thursday, July 11, 2024 at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516.
