Edwin E. Knotts, age 70 of Massillon, passed away Thursday, December 22, 2022. He was born October 16, 1952, in Massillon and was a graduate of Tuslaw High School. Ed owned and operated The Village Tavern for 25 years. He enjoyed cars, Racing, and motorcycles.  He custom built his own motorcycle, "Whiskey Peddler". He started "Santa Run" in 1997, a program which raised money for Salvation Army, Shop With A Cop and the Massillon Boys and Girls Club.  This tradition is still carried on by Rick's West Park Tavern. Edwin is survived by his wife of 45 yrs, Alice (Ledger) Knotts; mother, Edna Knotts Groff; brothers, Harry (Stefanie) Knotts and Mack (Betty) Knotts; sisters-in-laws, Linda Grimm, Janie McGinnis, and Becky McNamara; God-daughter, Bethann (Charlie) Simons, special nephew, Chris (Missy) Knotts; nephews, Mark, Mike, Damian, and Eric; nieces, Robayn, Haley, and Lori; great-nieces and nephews, and best friend, Tom Ferguson. He was preceded in death by father, Henry E. Knotts and nephew, Brian. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 29, 2022 at 2 P.M. at Heitger Funeral Home - Jackson Chapel with his brother, Rev. Harry Knotts, officiating. Calling hours will be held prior to the service from 12 Noon to 2 P.M. Burial to follow the service in Newman Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be planned for a later date.
