Elizabeth M. Dietz (nee Swartz), 94, passed away on Thursday, December 13, 2012 at Rose Lane Health Care Center after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.
Elizabeth was born in Canton on May 29, 1918, the daughter of the late Daniel and Magdalena (Honnigman) Swartz.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dwight E. Dietz, sister Frances Soenhlen, brothers Elmer, Harry, Joseph and Hubert Swartz.
She is survived by her son, Mark (Gina) Dietz of Lancaster, OH; daughters, Mary Dietz of Lakewood, CO, Barbara (J. Douglas) Paulus of Jackson Twp., and Patricia Brasse of Dayton, OH, daughter-in-law Doris Dietz of Columbus, OH; grandchildren , Stephanie Dietz, Christine (Chris) Romagnoli, Douglas Dietz, David Dietz, Daniel (Jackie) Paulus, Andrew (Erin) Brasse, Peter Brasse, Lauren Brasse, and Leah Brasse; great-grandchildren Ava Romagnoli, Brock Romagnoli, Jonah Basalla, William Tortorici and Natalie Dietz.
Elizabeth graduated from McKinley High School and continued her education in business school. She began her career in the insurance industry with Stoner Insurance of Massillon before joing A. A. Hammersmith Insurance where she remained until retiring at the age of 70.
She was a life long active member of St. Mary Church in Massillon. She was a devout Catholic, a member of the church's Rosary Altar Society, Third Order of St. Francis, Legion of Mary, Parish Council and served as a Eucharistic Minister at Rose Lane prior to her illness. Elizabeth's favorite leisure time activities were watching 'good' movies, playing competitive card games, enjoying her grandchildren and going out for a cheeseburger and a piece of pie.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary Catholic Church on Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at 10 A.M. with Rev. Edward Gretchko celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. The family will receive friends/family from 8:45 to 9:45 AM prior to the mass at Heitger Funeral Home - Massillon Chapel.
The family is grateful for the love and care she received from Crossroads Hospice. In lieu of flowers donations in memory of Elizabeth may be made to St. Mary Church in Massillon, Crossroads Hospice or an Alzheimer's Association of your choice.
