IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Emily A.
Hensel
April 26, 1949 – November 14, 2023
Emily A. Hensel, age 74 of Navarre, went to be with the lord Tuesday, November 14, 2023.
She was born April 26, 1949, in Massillon, the daughter of the late Clifford and Lodi (Saunders) Street.
Emily was a retired teacher and nurse, and took care of many of the elderly and infirm over the years.
She was a member of North Canton Church of Christ, and often helped out at their food giveaways.
Emily is survived by her son, James "Bill" Hensel, along with several nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Hensel, with whom she spent 43 loving years.
Emily spent her life fighting for the rights of the disabled, and served on the governor's council for people with Disabilities.
She took care of, and was the interpreter for Nellie Zimmerman, the first blind-deaf woman in Ohio to get out of a mental institution, and go back to college. Emily then helped write a book about her experiences, "Walking Free: The Nellie Zimmerman Story", which is still used in university sign language classes to this day.
Emily was loved by her family and friends dearly, and will be greatly missed.
A memorial service will be held on Dec. 14th, at North Canton Church of Christ, 1301 East Maple St, North Canton, 44720 at 5 PM.
