Eugene (Gene) Raymond Valentine, age 78 of New Philadelphia, passed away on Wednesday, May 16, 2016. He was born on September 26, 1937, in Alliance, Ohio, the 4th child born to Raymond and Ruth (Brown) Valentine. He began his career as a bricklayer and later owned Valentine Masonry, Valley System Inc. and Under Pressure Systems, Inc. & Gulf Systems, Inc. He was a current member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and regularly volunteered at their fish fry. He was a former member of St. Mary's Catholic Church Massillon. He had a tremendous sense of humor and a booming laugh, loved playing cards, hunting and golfing, but more than anything, he cherished the time he spent with his family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Cynthia Jane (Chenevey) Valentine; children Daniel (Suzanne) Valentine, Shelly (Dave) Parrott, David (Deena) Valentine and Christopher Valentine; his siblings, Virgil Valentine, Betty Valentine, Jerry (Jan) Valentine, Richard (Geri) Valentine, Harold (K.C. Cook) Valentine, Jim (Evelyn) Valentine, Ray (Sue) Valentine, Wayne (Jayne) Valentine, Juanita (Dick) Schillig, Denny (Linda) Valentine, Reggie (Linda) Valentine and Steve (Michelle) Valentine; grandchildren Timmy Valentine, Torie Valentine, Olivia Valentine, Megan Valentine, Autumn Parrott, Tess Parrott, Sophia Valentine, Stephanie Miller and Andrew Miller; and many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, family and great friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Ruth Valentine, his son, Timmy Valentine, nephew Carl Schillig and sisters in law Joyce Valentine & Carole Valentine.
The family will receive friends at Heitger Funeral Home – Massillon Chapel, 639 First St. N.E., Massillon on Friday, May 20, 2016 from 2 to 4 P.M. and from 6 to 8 P.M. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at 10 A.M. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 129 Cherry St. N.E., Massillon celebrated by Rev. Jeff Coning, Pastor of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He will be laid to rest next to his beloved son at Calvary Cemetery, Massillon.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Timothy J. Valentine Scholarship Fund, c/o David Valentine, 4383 Executive Circle NW, Canton, OH 44718.
