Francis E. Schmidt, age 81 of Massillon , passed away Tuesday, November 8, 2016 following an extended illness.
He was born November 17, 1934, in Massillon the son of the late Frank J. and Florence (Heck) Schmidt.
Francis was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp serving during the Korean Conflict. He retired from Sugardale after 30 years of service retiring in 1996.
He was a member of St. Barbara Catholic Church where he was a former member of Parish Council and was sacristan. He was a member of K of C Council #554, 3rd Degree.
Francis is survived by his wife of 59 years, Shirley (Werstler) Schmidt, sons Michael J. Schmidt, Timothy J. Schmidt, Paul F. (Christy) Schmidt, daughters Brenda (Douglas) Roll, Barbara (James) Johnson, brothers, Floyd (Alice) Schmidt, Raymond (Judy) Schmidt, sisters Sr. Rosemary HHM and Vivian Gresser and six grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter Mary Schmidt, brother Fr. John W. Schmidt, sisters Shirley Schmidt and Rita Wagner.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, November 14, 2016 at 10 A.M. at St. Barbara Catholic Church with Revs. Brian Cline, Thomas Cebula and Thomas Bishop celebrants.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, November 13, 2016 at Heitger Funeral Home - Massillon Chapel from 3 to 6 P.M.
Entombment will follow at Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Barbara Capital Campaign Fund, 2813 Lincoln Way N.W., Massillon, Ohio 44647.
