Obituary

George Alexander Farris, 73, Jackson Township

He was called to Heaven, Saturday, October 31, 2015, following a courageous battle against cancer.

Born April 20, 1942, in Salem, Ohio, George lived most of his life in the Akron-Canton area. He was a pilot, engineer/inventor, amateur radio enthusiast (K8NXI), witty conversationalist, collector of knowledge and facts, and an accomplished traveler.

"The secret to my success was that somehow I always managed to fly another day." - Chuck Yeager
George had a life-long love affair with planes and was a pilot to the end. As an engineer, he was a visionary – simplifying the complicated. That was him. He lived as unpretentiously as he dressed. Taking exceptional pride in gathering and sharing wisdom, he was notorious for his wit and his one-liners.

George is survived by his wife, Pamela, and four children, Douglas (Kelley) Farris of Golden, CO.; John (Grazyna) Farris of San Francisco, CA.; Sarah (Nathaniel) Grundy of Jackson Township, Kara Farris of Stow; and 6 grandchildren, Mallorie Hoy, Alexander and Sophia Farris, Anne, Ivan, and Neal Grundy. He is preceded in death by his parents, Rufus and Sophia (Nowell) Farris, and sister, Laurel Farris. A service celebrating George's life will begin on Saturday November 7, 2015 at 5:00 at MAPS Air Museum, 2260 International Parkway, North Canton, Ohio 44720. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to MAPS Air Museum. Condolences and special memories may be shared online at www.heitger.com .
