George Volkmann 87, of Canton, died Tuesday, January 3, 2017 after a long illness. Born October 30, 1929 in Weehawken, New Jersey and resided here since 1964. He was a graduate of Ohio University and was a retired Air Force Captain. He joined Ernst and Ernst until 1970 when he became Vice President of the Hoover Company until his retirement in 1987. He served as president of the Canton Chamber of Commerce in 1975. He also served on the Board of Trustees for Walsh University and the Catholic Community League. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church.
Survivors include sons Paul (Jan) Volkmann of Houston Texas, Steve (Rebecca) Volkmann of Worthington Ohio, Richard Volkmann (Carrie See) of Orlando Florida, Doug Volkmann of Canton and John (Jen) Volkmann of Winchester Virginia; daughters Louisa (Neil) Egan of Atlanta Georgia and Caroline Wilson of Canton; eleven grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife Janet Volkmann of 51 years.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at Heitger Funeral Home - Jackson Chapel at 11am with Rev. Donald King officiating.
Calling hours will be held Friday, January 6, 2017 at the funeral home from 6pm to 8pm.
Burial will be at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens in Massillon.
