Schroeder
February 15, 1938 – September 23, 2016
Gerald Robert John Schroeder, age 78, Massillon, died Friday, September 23, 2016. He was born February 15, 1938 in Canton son of the late Edwin L and Gertrude M (Gertz) Schroeder. He graduated from Massillon Washington in 1956 and was employed by AT&T for 34 years. Besides his parents he is preceded in death by his brother Edwin L. Schroeder Jr., sister Joanne M. Schroeder, and brother-in-law Gene Dunn. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Dolores (Dominguez) Schroeder and four daughters; Lori M (Rob) Wemhoff of Kent, Brenda S. (Jeremy) Leighton of Copley, Victoria A. Schroeder of Columbus and Christine M. Schroeder of Naples, FL; four grandchildren; Meredith, Layne and Abigail Wemhoff and Maurin Leighton; sister, Sharlene Dunn of Massillon, brother, Robert L (Lana) Schroeder of Alliance, and numerous nieces and nephews. Gerald never met a stranger and was a friend to all who knew him. He had two nicknames – Mr Goodwrench because there wasn't anything he couldn't fix – or tool he didn't have; and The Pope – because of his devotion to his Catholic faith and commitment to serving others. He was extremely proud of being an amateur (ham) radio operator – WB8YYK. He was active in his parish of St. Mary, Massillon, was a past president of the St. Mary School PTO and volunteered countless hours on the Nave committee. He volunteered at the K of C Hot Lunch Program, was a fourth degree Knight of K of C #554, a volunteer at the Elliott Car Museum in Stuart, FL, and a veteran of the National Guard. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Edward Gretchko, Pastor of St. Mary's Catholic Church on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at 11 A.M. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Massillon and con-celebrated by Ft. Thomas Bishop. Burial will be in Sunset Hills Memorial Gardens. Calling hours will be Tuesday, September 27, 2016 from 5 to 8 P.M. at Heitger Funeral Home – Massillon Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the K of C #554 Building Foundation or a charity of personal choice. Please leave condolences here at this site. 330-833-3248
