Gerry W. Helmick, age 64 of North Lawrence formerly of Massillon, passed away Wednesday, September 9, 2020 surrounded by his family. He was born January 16, 1956, in Orrville the son of the late Gale and Helen (Bennett) Helmick. He served in the Navy honorably during Vietnam. Gerry retired from the United States Postal Service after 30 years of service. He volunteered for over 30 years for the Boys and Girls Club coaching a Massillon youth football team; The Eagles 190.  Gerry was passionate about hunting and fishing. Gerry is survived by his wife, Susan Helmick; children, Eric Helmick, Kelly (Bill) Colson, Jason Helmick, and Nicholas (Tiffan) Helmick; seven grandchildren, Matthew, Camrynn, Morgan, Kylee, Kelsie, Owen, Rilee; brothers, Richard (Lucy) Helmick, Arnold (Janice) Helmick; sister, Donna(Gary) Jekubik; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Linda Waymire. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, September 13, 2020 at Christ Lutheran Church, 3545 Amherst Ave NW, Massillon 44646 at 4pm with Pastor Nancy Bacon officiating. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service, from 3pm to 4pm. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Boys and Girls Club of Massillon.
