Obituary

Grant “Fuzzy” Kowell, 80, of Massillon, Ohio, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday, May 16, 2026.

Born June 9, 1945, and proudly raised in Massillon, Fuzzy was the kind of man who never met a stranger. If you knew him, you probably had a drink with him, laughed with him, shared a story with him, or left feeling like family. Life, according to Fuzzy, was meant to be enjoyed — preferably surrounded by good people, good music, and good memories.

Many knew him as the proud owner of Fuzzy’s Night Club, where he spent years bringing people together to celebrate life. To Fuzzy, it was never just a bar — it was a gathering place filled with friendship, laughter, dancing, storytelling, and unforgettable nights. He truly loved creating a place where everyone felt welcome.

Some of his favorite moments in life were the simple but meaningful ones: family vacations to Myrtle Beach, reminiscing and laughing with the Massillon Class of 1963, and spending time with the love of his life and bride of 49 years, Mildred “Millie” (Baughman) Kowell.

Above all else, Fuzzy loved his family deeply. He is survived by his loving wife, Mildred I (Baughman). Kowell; daughters Keely Beebe (Matt Beebe), Korinne Kowell-Hull (Dustin Hull), and Kandyce Burgett (Dan Burgett); and his beloveds grandchildren, Lola and Rinn Beebe, who knew him best as “Papa.”

He is also survived by his brother, Sidney “Skip” Kowell, and nephew Rodney Kowell.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sidney Kowell and Carolyn Kowell.

Fuzzy would not want to be remembered with long faces and sadness. He would want stories shared, drinks raised, music playing, and people together — exactly the way he lived his life. In lieu of a traditional funeral, a Celebration of Life for family and friends will be held at a later date.

Rather than sending flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his memory to the Massillon Boys and Girls Club Endowment Fund, 730 Duncan St SW, Massillon OH 44647.

The party may have changed locations, but anyone who knew Fuzzy knows the laughter, stories, and memories he created will live on forever.
