Obituary

James “Jimmy” Boykin, affectionately known as “Pops,” age 77, of Massillon, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, March 26, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born March 2, 1949, in Carrollton, Ga, to the late Joe and Mary (Smith) Boykin.

Jimmy was a retired foreman on oil rigs and a faithful member of The Jesus Spot. He was known as a great provider, a funny and real man, and above all, a loving father who deeply cared for his family.

He found joy in church, basketball, and music, and he brought laughter and strength to those around him.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 51 years, Pamela (Wyatt) Boykin; his daughter, Shannon Boykin (Shawn Newsom); and his sons, James J. Boykin, Craig L. Gibson, and Steven W. (Kellee) Gibson. He also leaves behind 18 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren, along with his sisters, Mary, Terry, Patricia Wilkins, and Barbara Boykin.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, James Wilkins; his brother in law,Terry; and his sister, Josie Mary Boykin.

Funeral services will be held on April 8, 2026, at The Jesus Spot, 140 Perry Dr SW, Canton, at 12:00 PM, with Rev. Robert Williams officiating. Calling hours will be held from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM prior to the service.

Burial will follow at Massillon Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
