James L. Maurer, age 85, died Friday, October 28, 2011 at his residence surrounded by his family.

He was born June 17, 1926, the son of the late Lawrence W. and Gertrude (Kiefer) Maurer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Michael J. Maurer who died in 1968 and Patrick L Maurer who died in 1974.

James attended Washington High School and was a veteran of the Navy serving during WWII.

He was a retired plumber and was a member of Plumbers and Pipefitters # 94. He enjoyed creative and artistic hobbies and loved woodworking and feeding birds, animals and wildlife.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years Mary Lou (Lynn) Maurer of Massillon daughter and son-in-law Amy K. and Jacob Heidt of Massillon, sister Mary F. Allen of Canal Fulton, grandchildren Jason, Bradley, Kyle, Michelle and Kevin Heidt and great-grandchildren Star, Lola, Riley and Brayden Heidt.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2011 from 6 to 8 P.M. at Heitger Funeral Home - Massillon Chapel.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2011 at 10 A.M. at St. Mary Catholic Church with Rev. Edward Gretchko celebrant. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary's Memorial Fund, 726 First St. N.E., Massillon, Ohio 44646 .
