Schnell
December 23, 1936 – June 14, 2018
James E. Schnell, age 81 of Strasburg, and formerly of Jackson Twp., passed away Thursday, June 14, 2018 at Community Hospice Thurman House with his wife and daughter at his side.
He was born December 28, 1936, in Wheeling, WV, the son of James and the late Leah (Tunt) Schnell. He was a 1954 graduate of Washington High School and a member of Massillon Alumni Association.
James proudly served his country in the USAF as a jet engine mechanic. He was a member of Sampson AirForce Base Veterans Association and B52 Stratofortress Association. Following discharge, he began his 30 year career in the wholesale/retail food industry having been employed at the McLain Grocery Co., Massillon in the sales department and retired from the Crossett Company of Cincinnati, Ohio. Following retirement, Jim was happiest when traveling with Joyce in their motor home throughout the U.S. and Canada. His favorite places being anywhere along the Pacific coast.
Jim had been a member of The Basilica of St. John The Baptist Church in Canton and while still in good health volunteered at the Samaritan's Table.
Jim was preceded in death by his mother, Leah Schnell. He will be forever missed by his wife of 45 1/2 years, Joyce (Getz) Schnell and his children Laurie (Gary) Sticker of Mulberry, FL, Greg (Myra) Schnell of Canal Fulton, Kris Schnell of Zoar, grandchildren, SSgt. Wayne (Brooke) Nattkemper USArmy of Manhatten, KS, and Dr. Leigh Nattkemper (Adrian) Pilkington; great-granddaughter Scarlett Nattkemper, father James Schnell of Arcadia, FL. and brother, Brian (Beth) Schnell of North Lawrence. He is also going to be missed by his faithful little dog, Teddy who never left his side.
The family would like to express sincere gratitude to the staff of Community Hospice for their excellent care and also thank Fr. Jimmy Hatfield of St. Joseph Church, Dover, Oh for his words of comfort and prayers while visiting Jim.
Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Heitger Funeral Home. Graveside Services with full military honors will be held on Thursday, June 21, 2018 at 1 :30 P.M. at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Community Hospice Truman House, 716 Commercial Avenue S.W., New Philadelphia, Ohio or to Tuscarawas County Humane Society, 1432 Tall Timber Road N.E.,New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663.
