Obituary

James S. Skacal, age 88 of Massillon, passed away Thursday, July 25, 2024 at Aultman Compassionate Care Center.


He was born January 4, 1936, in Pittsburgh, PA, the son of the late Stephen and Margaret (Ritson) Skacal.


He graduated from Carrick High School, Pittsburgh, PA, and was an Army veteran.


A devoted husband, loving brother, father, grandfather and great grandfather, he enjoyed a successful career in sales.


He had a great love for dogs, played softball and golf, enjoyed reading about World War II history, loved to sing and was a big fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers.


James is survived by his children, Debra (Doug) Reble, James (Stefanie), Charles "Matt" (Carol) Skacal, Susan (Mick) Rohrbough, Linda (Lee) Antle, Cynthia (Len) Rohrbough, Cindy (Tom) Braden, Vicki (John) Deasy, David (Heidi) Walter; Michael (Carol) Walter; grandchildren, Tom (Dawn) Zych, Dr. Alexandra (Zack) Palazzo, Thane (Nicole) Skacal and Seth (Andrea) Large, David Puchtler, Michael (Julia) Puchtler, Steven (Athena) Deasy, Chris (Elise) Deasy, Samantha (Ian) Walter, Jack Walter, Emma Walter, Whitney (Dwane) Allen, Laura Walter, Jon (Bryan) Walter, MacKenzie Walter, Luke (Krista) Cowgill; several great grandchildren; and sister, Margaret "Peggy" Beveridge.


He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Louise Skacal; one infant son, Matthew Skacal, and one infant daughter, Tammy Skacal.


A private graveside ceremony will be held at Jefferson Memorial Park in Pittsburgh, PA, on August 17, 2024 at 11 AM.
