Jean E. Powell, age 81, passed on peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at Aultman Hospital.

She was born February 24, 1930 in Tiffin, Ohio, the daughter of the late Carl and Fanny Gale (Searfoss) Owings.

She was a member of Church of the Lakes, euchre club, Golden Girls, MDA, WOW, Friends at New Philly, Friends Church of the Lakes, Goodwill Auxiliary, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts Auxiliary, Farm Bureau, 40+, GWRRA, Mound City Star Twirlers, and YMCA. Jean enjoyed sewing, photography, spending time with nature, and cats.

Jean is survived by daughter, Debra Lavender, granddaughter, Aimee Jones and husband Ryan Kelbel, sister-in-law, Emma "Toots" Powell, brother-in-law, Ronal Powell and many nieces and nephews, and her beloved cat, Copper.

She was preceded in death by husband Charles L. Powell, grandson, Benjamin Jones, five brothers, Stanley, Walter, Emery, Russel, and Jack Owings.

Visitation will be held Sunday, October 9 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Church Of The Lakes United Methodist Church.

Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, October 9, 2011 at Church Of The Lakes United Methodist Church, 5944 Fulton Dr. Nw, Canton at 3:00 PM with Rev. Bryan George officiating.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Muscular Dystrophy Association, 1080 Nimitzview Drive, Cincinnati, OH 45230.
