Obituary

Joanne M. Friedrich, age 91, formerly of Massillon, passed away Thursday, October 8, 2026 at North Canton Danbury Sanctuary Grande.

She was born November 21, 1934, in Canton, daughter of the late Dewey and Anna Moore.

She was a 1953 proud graduate of Central Catholic High School and married her high school sweetheart James. He preceded her in death in 2008. They spent greater than 40 years working in the family business that they built together, Stark Cooling and Heating.

She was a life time member of St. Mary's Catholic Church where she was active in PTA. She was also a member of RSESA, Soroptimist Club, Massillon Woman's Club, and Shady Hollow Country Club where she was one of the original "Shady Ladies". She and eight high school girlfriends formed Club '53 and she was fortunate to attend their last monthly luncheon the day before she died.

Joanne is survived by her children; Cindy Maier, Ken Friedrich, Shari (Brian) Specht, and Sandi Blogna; 13 grandchildren and their spouses; and 18 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her son Joseph, son-in-law; Neil Maier; daughter-in-law, Kim Friedrich; and four siblings.

Joanne was a proud CCHS Crusader, and very devoted to the school and her Catholic education.

She enjoyed golfing to the age of 90, and loved traveling especially to their second home in the Bahamas (that was her happy place).

She was a true "Social Butterfly", and was happiest surrounded by family and friends. Many happy memories were made around their pool and home.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 14, 2026 from 4 to 6 P.M. at Heitger Funeral Home - MASSILLON CHAPEL, 639 1st St NE.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, October 15, 2026 at 11 A.M. at Divine Mercy Parish/St. Mary Campus, 206 Cherry Rd NE, Massillon.

Burial to follow the service at Calvary Cemetery in Massillon.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to CCHS to the James N. Friedrich, '53 Memorial Fund.

Special thanks to the staff at Danbury Sanctuary Grande for helping Mom enjoy the last four years of her life filled with activities and new friendships. The family would also like to thank the Helping Hands Aides and Advantage Hospice for their compassion and care towards Mom.
