John E. Galinis, age 84 of Jackson Twp., passed away on Sunday, December 17, 2017, with his loving family by his side.
He was born Sept. 9, 1933 in Hastings, PA, son of the late Joseph and Mary (Polites) Galinis.
John was a veteran of the Navy.  He served on the Aircraft Carrier USS Boxer during the Korean Conflict from 1951 through 1954.  He was a member of VFW Post 1066 Barberton.
He was a manufacturing engineer retiring in 1994 from Babcock and Wilcox in Barberton after 23 years of service.
John always had a smile on his face.  In addition to his family, he loved and cared for the wildlife in his backyard and was entertained by them for many hours.
John is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Sheila Galinis, his children and step-children, John Galinis, Mark (Lori) Galinis, Joseph Galinis, Terry Brown, Diane (Pete) Collette, Denise (Ed) Cassinetto, Daniel (Shellie) Knighton and Tonya Marie, brother Kevin(Mary) Galinis, fifteen grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters Mary Ellen (Joseph) Shonsky and Florence (Stephen) Gresko and brother Joseph (Leota) Galinis.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 from 4 to 6 P.M. at Heitger Funeral Home - Jackson Chapel, 5850 Wales Ave. N.W., Massillon 44646.
Funeral service will follow beginning at 6 P.M. with Rev. Thomas Bishop officiating.
Private burial will be at the convenience of the family.
