Obituary

On Sept 12th, 2025, the world lost a bright soul, Karin Szuter, aged 77. Karin passed away peacefully at her home in Canal Fulton, Ohio.
Born on February 5, 1948, in Schwerin, Germany, Karin's life left a lasting impression on everyone she met.

Karin's journey began with a daring escape from East Germany in 1948 at the age of 6 months old, with her parents' plan to give her sleeping pills and smuggle her out of Schossin to the new "West" Germany in a pillowcase to evade Russian detection.
Her family's quest for a better life led them to the United States in 1952, where Karin's spirit began to shine. She spent her early school years in a one-room schoolhouse in Montana, where she was the sole student in her grade—a unique experience that she would recount often with a smile.
It was their home in Montana where she gained a love of the great outdoors and always spoke of Montana with great fondness.

Her life took her to Cleveland, Ohio. 1964 she paid $4.25 to see the infamous Beatles perform at Public Hall.
3 years later, she met and married Stephen Szuter in August 1967.
Together, they welcomed their first child Deanna December 1967, and their son Christopher in December 1970.
Karen's loyalty and devotion to her family carried over into the family businesses, where her hard work helped create the success of each establishment. She cooked everyone's favorite sausage sandwiches at the Last Resort Lounge, and her famous Chili is still talked about at Fiddlestix Billiard Cafe to this day.

Karin's path to becoming a U.S. citizen in 1995 was a milestone she held dear, a testament to her love for her adopted country.
Her short career as a school bus driver in Jackson Township reflected her nurturing nature as she safely shepherded countless children to and from school. She was the first person in Jackson Township to get 100% on the CDL test.

Among Karin's passions included art, the outdoors including, camping, boating, exploring, mowing and beekeeping.
She spent countless hours observing her beloved bees, marveling at their industry and harmony. Even as her health began to limit her activities, her fascination with the natural world never waned.
Karin's love of travel included participating in sports car rallies with her husband in their younger days. She was naturally adventurous, traveling back to Montana, annual trips to the French River, Canada with her family. She was always open to new experiences whether it was sipping a Margarita in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico or seeing a Pow Wow in Wyoming.

Karin's bright and bubbly personality was her hallmark. Her infectious laughter made her a beloved friend to many, and had a knack for making friends everywhere she went. Her Son Christopher recalls Karin standing in line at the grocery store and complete strangers would start chatting with her, and it ended up sounding like they had been best friends for a lifetime.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Stephen Szuter, her loving children, Christopher Szuter and Deanna Szuter, who will continue to honor her legacy with love and gratitude.

Gathering of friends and family to be held at Fiddlestix Billiard Cafe, 5350 Fulton Dr NW, Canton, OH 44718 between the hours of 12pm and 4pm on Sunday, September 21, 2025.
