Lamont "Jay" Callahan, age 58, died Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at Legends Care Center following an extended illness.
He was born June 27, 1956, in Massillon, the son of the late Orrin Lamont and Betty Jane (Webster) Callahan.
Jay retired from Lens Crafters where he was an optician and manager for a number of years. He also was a volunteer for Gift of Sight and Rose Lane Nursing Home.
He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where he served on the church council and Massillon Moose. He enjoyed karaoke singing. playing the guitar and fishing.
Jay is survived by former wife and significant other, Anna Langenfeld of Massillon; step-son and wife, Shawn and Kim Eberhart and grandchildren Nathan and Madison Eberhart of Medina, brother, John (Brenda) Callahan of Canton, nephew, Stephen Callahan, great nieces Haily and Jayla Callahan, niece Shannon Callahan, former sister-in-law Bonnie Bucher of North Canton, former brother-in-law, Nick (Mary Jo) Langenfeld and niece Stepahnie Langenfeld, of Massillon; numerous extended family and close friends.
Visitation will be held Friday, September 19, 2014 at Heitger Funeral Home, Massillon Chapel, 639 First St NE from 6pm to 8pm and on Saturday, Sept 20, 2014 from 9:30 to 10 at the church prior to the service.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 20, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 127 Cherry Rd NE, Massillon, at 10 AM with Pastor David Saylor officiating.
Burial to follow at Massillon Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Gift of Sight, onesight.org, 4000 Luxottica Place, Mason, OH 45040 or American Lung Association.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Drs. Guy Blaser, Wayne Lutzke, and Wayne Gross for their care of Jay.
