Lon J. Coverdale, age 86 of Massillon, passed away Sunday, December 29, 2019 at his daughter's home surrounded by his family.
He was born December 31, 1932, in Butler County, PA,   the son of  the late Leonard J. and Mable (Claypool) Coverdale.
He attended Washington High School and graduated from Petrolia High School in Pennsylvania in 1950.
He enjoyed the outdoors and fished and hunted.  He enjoyed carpentry and woodworking.  Following retirement he was an avid reader.
Lon retired from  McLain Grocery Company, Fleming IGA, after 42 years in rack sales.
Lon is survived by sons, Rodney (Billie) Coverdale, Tim Coverdale, Brian Coverdale; daughters, Kathy Groff, Linda (Glenn)  Goe;  grandchildren, Denise Yamashige, Michael Groff, Mitchell Coverdale, Samuel Goe, Peggy, Hunter, Austin, and Rodney Coverdale, Richard Plavka, Leonard Coverdale; brothers, Joseph and Norman Coverdale; sister Rachael Lamp; and Barbara's children, Terry Alexander and Kelly Alexander.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Barbara and son-in-law Dennis Groff.
Celebration of Life Service will be held on Sunday, January 5, 2020 at 2 P.M. at Heitger Funeral Home - Jackson Chapel, 5850 Wales Ave. N.W., Massillon with Pastor Roger Kurzen officiating.
Visitation will be held prior to the service from 1:30 P.M. to 2 P.M. at the funeral home.
