Louis A. Haer, Sr., age 73 of Jackson Twp., passed away on July 15, 2016 following a brief but valiant battle with cancer. He was born in Massillon, son of the late Philip H. and Dorothy B. (Maybaugh) Haer. Louie retired from East Ohio Gas in 1999 where he was a fieldman for 35 years. He was a member of Queen of Heaven Catholic Church and National Wild Turkey Federation Sippo Valley Longbeards Chapter where he was involved with various activities. He was a volunteer for 10 years for the Hall of Fame Festival Events. He was a former Jackson Sideliner and a coach for Jackson Youth Sports. Louie loved nature and the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed traveling and the beach. Above all he loved spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Barb (Feller) Haer, sons Louis (Donna) Haer of Williamstown, WV and Chad (Kelly) Haer of Massillon, daughter Lori (Paul) Chevalier of Brighton, MI, brother Ken (Carol) Haer of Massillon, grandchildren, Mason and Bryce Haer, Andrew, Jack and Libby Chevalier, and Ethan and Logan Haer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son John Philip. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 19, 2016 from 6 to 8 P.M. at Heitger Funeral Home - Jackson Chapel, 5850 Wales Ave., N.W., Massillon. Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at 11 A.M. at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, 1800 Steese Road, Uniontown, Ohio 44685 with Rev. Samuel Ciccolini celebrant. Burial will follow at Sunset Hills Burial Park, Canton. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to National Wild Turkey Federation Sippo Valley Longbeards Chapter, 1375 Kelly St. S.W., Massillon, Ohio 44647 or American Cancer Society, 525 N. Broad St., Canfield, Ohio 44406-9274.
