Lucille went to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 20, 2011 at the age of 99 years and 7 months. She was born Anna Lucille Zantene in Somerdale, Ohio on July 16, 1911. Her parents were John Zantene and Ada Mae Bittekoffer. John, originally Giovanni Zontini immigrated from Storo, Italy in 1907. Mae was born in Tuscarawas County and is of considerable Native American inheritance.
Lucille was preceded in death by her brother Emery in 1942, her sister Lauramae Gheen in 2008, her loving husband Philip Everhart in 1996, a son Philip in 1933, and a great grandson Shawn Spears in 2007.
She is survived by children Dr. Rodney Everhart, Phyllis (Butch) Barnhart, Cheryl (Ed) Carrick, and Peter Everhart. Grandchildren Shawn Renee (David) Barnhart-Evanoff. Brent (Gisele) Barnhart, and Jason Carrick all of Canton. Grandchildren Scott (Dr. Christina) Carrick of Pickens SC, Della (Steve) Dalton of Monett, MO, Robin Hazelwood of Gleason TN, Twyla (David) Kabetske of Republic, MO. Also, 7 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.
Lucille was an active member of The New Beginning Church of the Nazarene and First Church of the Nazarene for many years. She was best known for her cooking and baking. She baked almost daily for family and for church functions. Fresh homemade cookies were always present at her house up until a week ago. No one ever left her house hungry! She could make a delicious meal out of almost anything. Some favorites include buckeyes, lemon cookies, and banana cream pies.
She did what she wanted to do on her terms. At age 88 they made her take the driving test after a fender bender. She went down to that BMV and passed that test the first time. She continued to drive until about 3 years ago.
She died at home surrounded by family with the help of Hospice.
Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, February 24, 2011, at 10:00 AM at The New Beginning Church of the Nazarene with the Pastor Ben Lee officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery, in Canton. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 23, 2011, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The New Beginning Church of the Nazarene, Building Fund, 5640 Portage St. N.W., North Canton, OH 44720 or to a charity of your choice.
