IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Margaret "Maggie"
Critchfield
November 6, 1944 – June 12, 2025
Margaret "Maggie" Critchfield, age 80 passed away on June 12, 2025, at her home after a long and courageous fight with Alzheimer's disease. Over the years, Maggie was still able to bring smiles to all her helpers and caregivers. She is now free of her pain and suffering, and is going home to be with her beloved son Jeff that passed away in 2015. Maggie was born Nov. 6, 1944 in Battle Creek, Michigan, the daughter of the late Neil and Betty (Whaley) Hopkins. She was preceded in death by her son Jeff, her brother Lynn Hopkins, sister-in-law's, Paula, Joan and Pat, her in-laws John and Hazel Critchfield, and her Aunt Pauline and Uncle Charlie Spear. Maggie is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Richard (Dick) Critchfield, daughters, Tammy (David) Joiner and Amy (John) Randazzo, brothers Neils (Laura) Hopkins, Mike Hopkins, and Hank (Sue) Hopkins; grandchildren Zac, Aleah, Jake, Josh, Rocco and Bella, and great grandchildren Josalynn and Cooper. Maggie graduated from Colon High School in Colon, Michigan in 1962. She graduated from the National School of Aeronautics in Kansas City in October 1963, planning on becoming an airline stewardess. Maggie was only 19 at the time, and with law changes she had to be 21. They told her that until she turned 21, they could give her a job with the Navy Dept. in Washington, D. C. Maggie was up to the challenge and was off to D.C. It was during her work in D.C. that she met Dick, who just happened to live in the same apartment building, and was working and attending college there. The rest of their love story is now history after 61 years. Maggie's first trip to rural Garrett, Pa (Dick's Home) to meet his family in early 1964 was so much fun. Everyone loved Maggie and she felt right at home. Although there was no indoor bathrooms and other necessities, Maggie was a natural in making everyone so comfortable being around her, no matter what the issues may be. She was one of a kind. That trip was all Dick's family needed to know about Maggie, and that they were meant to be together. Maggie and Dick were married in a snow storm in Coldwater, Michigan on December 19, 1964. They started their married life together in Washington D.C., in a tiny one-bedroom apt. Maggie continued to work until their first child Tammy was born in 1966. Maggie never complained about moving, new adventures, or job changes for Dick. They moved to Cumberland, Maryland in 1967. While in Cumberland she had two more children, was baptized at Christ Lutheran Church, active and devoted to church and community outreach programs, bowling leagues, and was a member of the Alpha Omega Chapter, Epsilon Sigma Alpha and was named "Girl of the Year" at the state convention. Her leadership, and hours given to Philanthropic and other organizations was recognized. She was also Secretary of the Chapter. She loved living in her first home on Valley View Drive, LaVale. Her entire life was devoted to being a loving wife, mother, and to helping others. She was always known for her smile and kind heart. Maggie really devoted her life to the service and helping of others. She was always concerned about the welfare of others. She was not afraid to learn new things, always strong and determined and could really tackle any task. She would set goals and work toward achieving them. She never met a stranger, and could talk to anyone, no matter their background. After Maryland, many moves followed for her husband's job, including moves to Union City, TN, Lansing, MI, Gadsden, AL, Canton, OH, Battle Creek, MI, Grand Haven, MI, Canton, OH, Canton, MI, and finally Massillon, OH. In addition, even short-term living in Cortland, NY and Asheville, NC. Maggie was not afraid of change and did not complain about living in different locations. She ALWAYS loved meeting new people and decorating her homes and just enjoyed life. Maggie appreciated all she had and was willing to work hard to meet her goals. She worked at Dekalb Pfizer Genetics, Roberts Express, and retired from FEDEX in Green, OH. She somehow found time to be a VIP Blood Donor (over 15 gallons), a faithful Life Share Apheresis donor, Charter Member of the Genealogical Society in West TN, active Christian Church member of God's Family, find a Grave Helper, and helped so many families find info about their families (Genealogy). Maggie loved being part of a church family, flower gardens, swimming, golfing, bowling, tennis, walking, traveling, sewing, car rides, quilting, genealogy, and just being outdoors. She made so many beautiful quilts that are now being enjoyed by family and friends. Her smile, and later raising her eye brows, will always be missed. The family would like to thank Aultman Hospice staff of Nurse Laura, Dr. Hanne and Collette for their loving care and support during the difficult times. Thanks also to her great dedicated team of caregivers that cared for her daily, 7 days a week. Friends and Family are invited to a celebration of Life for Maggie to be held at Real Hope Church, 7641 Wales Ave. NW., North Canton, Ohio 44720 on Saturday, June 21, 2025 at 1 P.M.
