(Yochum) Scott
May 19, 1935 – January 17, 2024
Martha J. Scott, age 88, of Massillon, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2024, in her home surrounded by family. She was born on May 19,1935, in Vincennes, Indiana, the daughter of the late John and Martha (Oxemann) Yochum. She met and married her husband, Richard Scott, in March of 1957, and celebrated over 60 years of marriage prior to his passing in 2015. Martha is survived by her children; Cindy Scott (Dennis), Linda Kelley (Dan), William "Bill" Scott (Jenny), and Michael Scott (Ilona), her grandchildren; Zachary (Kelly), Brett, Hillary (Rob), Lauren, Clayton, great grandchildren; Nicole, Jacob, and Brooks, and grand-doggy; Rudy. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard, her brother Edward, and her sisters Emma Lou and Sue. Martha's career at Massillon Community Hospital spanned over 35 years, where she served the community in the positions of R.N. Manager of the Surgical Division and Manager of the Drug and Rehab Unit, before retiring in 2000. She was a very active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church where she loved participating in the Kitchen Angels. This group fundraises by baking and decorating cutout cookies during Christmas, and preparing soups for the local community and shut ins. Martha was an avid sports fan and enjoyed all Ohio sports, especially the Massillon Tigers, Ohio State Buckeyes, and Cleveland Indians. She and late husband Richard were Massillon football season ticket holders for over 55+ years! Calling hours will be held on Sunday, January 21, 2024, from 4-6 P.M. at Heitger Funeral Home - Massillon 1st Street Chapel. Funeral service will be held on Monday, January 22, 2024, at 1 P.M. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 127 Cherry Rd., N.E., Massillon with Pastor Mark E. Kreemer and Pastor Robert Groenke officiating. Burial to follow the service at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Guests are invited to attend a luncheon following burial service at St. Paul's Church Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church Kitchen Angels, or Worship Anew, 5 Martin Luther Drive, Ft. Wayne, IN 46825 or worshipanew.org.
