Mary Jacquelyn (Meinhart) DeLong, 83, passed away Tuesday, July 1, 2014 in Canton, Ohio at Bethany Nursing Home.    Known to her family and friends as Jackie, she was born July 22, 1930 in Massillon, OH to the late Gordon Edward and Mary Ethelreda Meinhart.

Jackie graduated from Mount Marie Academy (Central Catholic), was a graduate of Mercy Nursing School and attended Walsh College. She received her RN, or Registered Nurses License and worked for over 15 years on the OB/GYN ward of Timken Mercy Medical Center (Mercy) in Canton. She climbed her way up to assistant Head Nurse of GYN and eventually Head Nurse of the OB ward.

After her retirement Jackie provided daycare for her three grandchildren and was very active at Our Lady of Peace Church (Christ the Servant Parish) first as the Parish Nurse and later as a Holy Duster.

Jackie was a devoted and loving daughter, wife, sister, friend, cousin, aunt, mother and grandmother and faithfully took care or offered advice the many people that that came her way.  She loved to bake, quilt, travel and spend time with her loved ones.

Jackie is preceded in death by her parents; sisters Jean Ellen (Meinhart) Converse, Joan Ester (Meinhart) Heitger; brothers Michael Peter Meinhart, Edward Louis Meinhart, and Gordon Edward Meinhart, Jr; husband Robert Eugene DeLong and son Robert Eugene DeLong, Jr.

Jackie is survived by her daughter Susan (Gary) Brahler of Canton, son Peter DeLong (Melissa and daughter Emily Snyder) of Jackson Twp., daughter Michelle DeLong-Miller (David) of Chicago, IL, grandson Michael Brahler, granddaughter Emily Brahler, grandson Evan DeLong and her lifelong best friend Louise Mraz.

Jackie's family thanks the nurses, staff and Baum family at Bethany Nursing home for the excellent care they provided to their mother and grandmother.

Service will be held at Christ the Servant Parish, 833 - 39th St NW, Canton, at 1PM Saturday, July 5, 2014 with Msgr. Lewis F. Gaetano celebrant.  The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service at the church from 12pm-1pm.
