Paul M. Halter, age 62 of Tallmadge, died on Monday, November 17, 2014.
He was born in Massillon on August 27, 1952 son of Paul A. Halter of Massillon and the late Mary (Peters) Halter.
Paul was a veteran of the Vietnam Era. He proudly served in the Navy on the aircraft carrier USS John F. Kennedy.
Following his passion, and in his father's footsteps, Paul became a carpenter. He formerly worked for Schwebel Baking and most recently worked for Superior Beverage in Glenwillow.
"(Neighbor) Paul was the nicest man I ever met." His family has heard those words countless times about this warm hearted man, so willing to help a friend in need. For the past 38 years he enjoyed the company of his friends playing Tuesday night penny poker. He loved his boat and was an avid fisherman.
Paul leaves behind his wife of 36 years, Margaret (Peggy Jordan) Halter, daughters and sons-in-law Emily and Ananth Murthy, Elissa and Forrest Folk and daughter, Monica. He will be missed immensely by his father Paul Anthony Halter; sisters and brothers-in-law, Kathy and Ron Lazar, Marylou and Ken Hefling and Sylvia and Mike Priest; brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Becky Halter. He was a doting grandfather to four granddaughters Vivienne, Violette, Kiran and Leela; adoring Uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 20, 2014 from 1 to 3 P.M. and from 6 to 8 P.M. at Heitger Funeral Home - Jackson Chapel, 5850 Wales Ave. N.W., Massillon, 44646.
Funeral service will be on Friday, November 21, 2014 at 10:30 A. M. at the funeral home with Fr. Thomas Cebula officiating.
Burial will be at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery with military honors on Monday, November 24, 2014 at 9:30 A.M.
Memorials may be made in his name to Akron Children's Hospital, One Perkins Square, Akron, Ohio 44308-1062.
