Obituary

Randall (Randy) Scott Dabb, 75, of North Canton, Ohio, left the planet on May 25, 2026, in the loving embrace of his wife, daughter, and grandson.

Born on February 10, 1951 in Ogden,Utah, Randy was the beloved son of Anna Barbara Taylor Dabb and Wayne Clarence Dabb.

Randy is survived by his wife of 55 years, Joanne Nestoff Dabb; sister, Julie Dabb Pencak (Christopher); daughter, Traci Anne Dabb (Antony Sloan); grandson, Michael Wolfgang Dabb; great-granddaughter, Sabrina Boylen-Dabb, and many beloved nieces, nephews, in-laws, and dear friends. He is also survived by his beloved cats, Luna, Xena, Castor, and Pollux.

Randy was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Barbara Dabb; his son, Michael Wayne Dabb; nephew Jason Erich Jakuszeit; and brothers, William Taylor Dabb and Wayne Clarence Dabb, Jr.

Randy was a force—a larger-than-life presence. He was a generous, mercurial, and big-hearted man and a lover of all animals, especially cats.

Randy grew up in Ogden, Utah, at the foot of the Wasatch Mountains. He loved the mountains and had a special connection to Malan’s Peak, where he hiked with his brothers and sister.

In the late 1960s, Randy’s family relocated to North Olmsted, Ohio, where he became fast friends with Michael Christopher (Chris) Nestoff, who remained his best friend for life. Randy married Chris’s younger sister, Joanne, who remained the love of his life. Randy and Joanne raised their family, moving from Ohio to Arizona, then Utah, and back to Ohio again.

Throughout his life, Randy had many careers—some short-lived and some that lasted: school janitor, door-to-door Bible salesman, and Rainbow vacuum salesperson. He finally found his calling as a hardware engineer. He graduated from Cuyahoga Community College, earning a degree in Electronics Engineering and went on to work for several companies including Pertec Computer Corporation, Diebold, and General Automation.

After he retired, Randy’s grandson, Michael Wolfgang, was the light of his life. Randy was the sole grandpa when he took six-month old Michael to “Mommy and Me” swim classes and had already started training young Michael in computer tech support by the time he was one year old.

Randy’s other retirement hobby was fostering cats. He was terrible at it because he couldn’t part with any of the cats.

Randy was also a long-time friend of Bill W. His journey of recovery became one of the great sources of meaning in his life, and he helped many others find their way.

Randy loved deeply and was deeply loved. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2026 with visitation from 1-3 PM, and service from 3-4 PM at Heitger Funeral and Cremation Service—Jackson Township Chapel; 5850 Wales Avenue N.W.; Massillon, OH 44646In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Randy’s memory to AlterCat: A Community Cat Project or The Glenbeigh Outpatient Center of Canton CAYA program.
