Richard William
Esposito
June 25, 1946 – April 17, 2026
Richard W. Esposito, age 79, of Massillon, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 17, 2026, at Aultman Compassionate Care Center.
He was born on June 25, 1946, in Brooklyn, New York, to the late Ralph and Filomenia Esposito.
Richard dedicated 50 years of his life to sales and service, building a career defined by hard work and commitment, eventually retiring from Orkin Pest Control. He was a faithful member of Divine Mercy Parish – St. Joseph Campus, and a proud member of the Knights of Columbus, Saints Philip and James Council #11037. Richard gave so much of himself to his church community. He was deeply involved in Youth Ministry and brought joy and laughter to others through the church clown group.
Richie was, at his core, a simple and loving man. He cherished his family above all else—his wife, his daughters, his grandchildren, and even the neighbors he considered family. His greatest joy was being a grandfather.
He found happiness in life’s simple pleasures—a good slice of pizza or a plate of pasta, a cigar on the back porch, a book in his hands, or music playing nearby. In the neighborhood, he was known for a whistle you couldn’t miss—strong and unmistakable—echoing through the streets to let his daughters know it was time to come home for dinner.
He carried Brooklyn in his heart and loved sharing stories about his hometown with anyone willing to listen. He was a devoted fan of football, baseball, and hockey, proudly supporting all New York teams. Richie was known for his kindness, warmth, and ability to make people laugh.
Richard is survived by his beloved wife, Phyllis (Terry) Esposito; his daughters, Catherine Sadowski (Bob) and Karen Esposito (Marcell); his grandchildren, Dustin (Raegan), Maria (Brad), and Cooper James; as well as 10 nieces and nephews and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews, all of whom loved hearing stories about their grandparents and his famous “back in my day” stories.
Richard and Phyllis shared a love that stood the test of time. On May 24, 2026, they would have celebrated 57 years of marriage—a beautiful testament to their lifelong devotion.
He is preceded in death by his brothers, Julian and Paul Esposito.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2026 at 10:30 a.m. at Divine Mercy Parish – St. Joseph Campus. Calling hours will be held on Friday, May 1, 2026 from 4:00–6:00 p.m. at Heitger Funeral Home – Jackson Chapel. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
