Obituary

Richard Lee Hoagland Sr., Together again... Seven years after the passing of his wife (Kitty), Richard Lee Hoagland reunited with her following his death on Oct. 4, 2013.

Dick was born in Canton, Ohio 79 years ago - on Aug. 17, 1934, when the registration fee for filing his Certificate of Birth was mere half-dollar. Dick proudly served the country he cherished as a 17-year-old U.S. Marine during the Korean War, an experience that he quietly carried over his lifetime. In March 1956, he married Olive Mae (Eckroate) Hoagland in Richmond, Ind., and over the next half-century the couple personally constructed their home and raised, reared, and nurtured their four children.

Dick is survived by Patty (Danny) Layne of Michigan, Dick, Jr. (Terri) Hoagland and Chuck (Tina) Hoagland of Massillon, and Helen (David) Newsome of North Lawrence. At the time of his death, Dick was a grandfather nine times over and had six great-grandchildren.

Dick retired from the Timken Company after more than three decades of proud union service, drove a school bus for the Dalton School District, and rescued and adopted a menagerie of abandoned or neglected dogs and one single cat.

Cremation has taken place and private services have been held at Dick's own request. In lieu of flowers, Dick would have wanted us to do something for our family, community, or country.

Heitger Funeral Home - Massillon Chapel is handling the arrangements.
