Richard L. Rootes, age 87, formerly of Massillon, passed away Sunday, November 6, 2022 at Chapel Hill Community. He was born March 9, 1935, in Akron, the son of the late David and Jesse (VanGilder) Rootes. Richard served in the United States Air Force.  He retired from Seifert Technology and had formerly worked at Monsanto Research, National Rubber Machinery, and Sun Environmental/Ensr Operations. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, K of C Council #554, 3rd Degree and served as the financial secretary, and 4th Degree Bishop Massillon Assembly where he served as controller.  He was Chairman of Akron Council of Electrical and Electronic Engineer Association and Treasurer of Ohio Federation of Music Clubs. Richard is survived by sons, Richard A. Rootes, John Rootes, David R. Rootes; daughter, Anita Rootes; and granddaughters, Randi and Tierney. He was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine E. Rootes, who died June 23, 2022, and a brother, Robert Rootes. Memorial Mass will be held on Monday, November 14, 2022, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Massillon, at 10:30 A.M. with The Very Rev. Canon Matthew Mankowski, celebrant. Calling hours will be held at the church prior to the Mass from 9:30 to 10:30 A.M. His final place of rest will be Ohio Western Reserve National  Cemetery with military honors. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to EWTN, 5817 Old Leeds Road, Irondale, AL  35210.
