Wenzel
September 15, 1926 – August 13, 2016
Richard T. Wenzel, age 89, a life long resident of Massillon, passed away on Saturday, August 13, 2016 after a period of declining health.
He was born in Massillon, Ohio on September 15, 1926 and was son of the late Clarence J. and Arline A. (Krisher) Wenzel.
Richard was a 1940 graduate of St. Mary's School and a 1944 graduate of Washington High School.
Richard retired after 20 years from MCA Sign Company where he had worked as a lithographer and foreman. He formerly worked at Iglestrom-Oberlin Sign Company.
He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Council #554, 3rd Degree. He was active in St. Mary's PTA and Massillon Tigers Swing Band Parents. He enjoyed gardening, photography and covered bridge hunting.
Richard is survived by his wife Esther (Carter) Wenzel who he married September 30, 1950. Also surviving are his children, Lois A. Wenzel of Chesterland, Ohio, Jean A. Morris of Massillon, Robert A. Wenzel of Massillon, Mary Joan Wenzel of Dover, James J. (Lori) Wenzel of Macomb Twp., MI, David E. (Helaine) Wenzel of Massillon, brother-in-law Thomas Chalfant of Navarre, nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law Dan Morris, sisters Winnie Wenzel, Jean (Frank) Dort, and Patricia Chalfant, brothers William (Gladys), James and Robert Wenzel.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at 11 A.M. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Massillon, with Fr. Edward Gretchko Pastor of St. Mary's Catholic Church as celebrant. Visitation will be held at the church begining at 10 A.M. prior to the Mass. Burial will be at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens in Massillon.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sisters of Notre Dame, 13000 Auburn Road, Chardon, Ohio, 44024.
