Rita K. Rice, age 67 of Canal Fulton passed away unexpectedly, surrounded by her loving family, on Friday August 29, 2025 at Aultman Hospital. She was born in Akron, on August 8, 1958, to the late Joseph and Mary Ann (Kimberley) Haas. Rita is survived by her husband of 46 years, Ronald Rice; children, Robert (Julie) Rice, Joseph (Nikki) Rice; siblings, John (Twila) Haas, Beth (Steve) Spradling, Joe (Lori) Haas; grandchildren, Ava, Nick, John, Corban and Dylan. She was preceded in death by her father Joseph Haas; mother, Mary Ann Nelson and step-father, Richard Nelson. Rita followed in her mother's footsteps by attending Idabelle Firestone School of Nursing at Akron City Hospital. She retired as a registered nurse from Catholic Charities after a career helping others. Her greatest joy though was spending time with her family, especially cheering on and celebrating her sons and grandchildren. Rita was her family's personal planner and enjoyed all aspects of traveling. Her favorite destinations were the southern beaches and western red rocks. Countless memories were made relaxing on the beach, sightseeing and hiking through beautiful mountains. Calling hours will be held on Friday, September 19th at Heitger Funeral Home-Jackson Chapel, 5850 Wales Ave. NW, Massillon from 6-8pm. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 20th at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, 1800 Steese Rd, North Canton at 11am with Rev. David Durkee celebrant. There will be a visitation time, on this date, at 10am at the church. Her final resting place will be at Canal Fulton Cemetery.
